The mRNA expression profile of SMN-treated chondrocytes. Supplementation with 25 μM SMN significantly downregulated catabolic iNOS, IL-, TNF-α, MMP-3, MMP-9 and MMP-13 and upregulated anabolic IL-10, TIMP-1 and COL2A1 mRNA expression in IL-1β-stimulated chondrocytes. The chondrogenic phenotype genes SOX9 and Sirt1 were also restored. However, SMN did not cause substantial changes in the mRNA levels of IL-6, IL-8 and AGCN in the injured cells
