Summary of the study design and blood sampling times. Arterial blood was collected for rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) and measurement of plasma inflammatory cytokines and chemokines at (1) baseline before anesthesia, (2) 10 min after bone cuts, and (3) end of surgery (30 min after skin closure). Sampling was also conducted on days 1 and 2 postoperatively for routine hematology and inflammatory cytokine/chemokine assessment
