Loading set-ups. (a) Group 1 - no abductor, i.e. hip contact force alone. Axial and torsional loading of the actuator produced distal (Fd), medial (Fm) and anterior-posterior (Fap) loading of the femoral head due to the mounting geometry and the offset between the femoral head and the central axis of the actuator, doff (32 mm). (b) Resulting forces on the femur for group 1. (c) Group 2 - hip contact force and abductor. (d) Resulting forces on the femur for group 2 (equilibrium calculations are presented in Figure 2).
